Everyone had such a fun time at my Open House Sunday. It was a blast. I had hoped to take pictures during the event to share, but I was so busy helping people I didn't have a chance. I missed the folks who weren't able to make it. I wish you had been here.

Everyone made this card while they were here. I love the new rhinestones - BLING! And the new Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper is so yummy!!

I used Pear Pizzazz, Early Espresso, Baja Breeze and Whisper White cardstock; Greenhouse Gala DSP; the new stamp set Word Play and don't forget the bling. :) That scalloped circle was punched with the new Extra Large 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch. So much fun!

Presto Smooches

I held a class recently and this is one of the projects we made. Overall it's a fairly simple card, but I really wanted to highlight two of the specialty products that are in the current mini catalog (and will be continued in the Idea Book & Catalog that starts July 1- Yay!!)

The Presto Patterns Designer Series Paper is a white on white embossed paper. When you apply ink to the paper the embossed pattern POPS out. There are several ways you can apply color to this specialty paper - brayer, sponge, color wash with an aqua painter, etc. I sponged Red Rose ink on this piece of Presto paper and then spritzed it with the gold Smooch Spritz. A little smooch goes a long way - but isn't that always the case *wink*. This picture doesn't do justice to the golden shimmer on this card, but you can see the golden color a bit in spots. Such fun!

Summertime Splendor cards

I've seen several samples of cards made with the My Digital Studio digital paper Summertime Splendor. I needed a quick set of cards for a teacher gift, so I decided to make a set myself! I printed the digital paper and sentiments on my Epson color printer and for some reason it slightly adjusted the color on one of the purple and one of the blue cards. That wouldn't have happened if I'd used the SU! printing service. They color match exactly! But it's still a beautiful set of cards, if I do say so myself. Enjoy!

After a long winter nap...

How about a fresh blogging start! And what better way to have a fresh blogging start than with some exciting news about some fresh Stampin' colors!!

New Stampin’ Up Colors!!

Color is one of Stampin’ Up!’s core products and I love playing with color as much as you do. I am so excited to announce that Stampin’ Up is renovating their color palette with the new 2010-2011 Idea Book & catalog available July 1. They are bringing you gorgeous colors that work well for what you create and keep the color palette current and fresh.

With this change 25 current colors will carryover as part of the Stampin’ Up! color collections. In addition they are bringing back 10 very popular In-Colors!! Customers and demonstrators have been pleading to have some favorite In-Colors return, and Stampin’ Up! listened. The icing on the cake is 5 BRAND NEW CORE COLORS!!! Early Espresso, Marina Mist, Cherry Cobbler, Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight are a beautiful new addition to the color collections.

In addition to the 5 new core colors, Stampin’ Up! will also be introducing 5 new In-Colors with the new 2010-2011 Idea Book & catalog. Hello happy stampers! Here's another project I made with my Hostess Club recently. I wanted to do a 6x6 this time, but I also realize that not everyone in the club is a scrapbooker. (gasp! *wink*) So I came up with a projects where they could have the choice of making it into a 6x6 or a card. Both projects use the same materials, just assembled a bit differently.

OK - so I'm totally dating myself (again) with my little play on words. I believe the original tag line was for brand of cassette tapes. Some of you youngin' may never have even seen an actual cassette tape! Don't be too shocked when I tell you I can remember having an 8 track player in the house. Gulp!

I'm still playing around with MDS and growing to love it more and more each day. I thought it would be fun to CASE myself digitally. Tell me what you think.

Stamping out germs

Hello fellow stampers. I apologize for my lack of posts in the last 2 weeks. Our house was struck with some serious illness lately. H1N1? Maybe - maybe not. All I know is it's been a very long time since I've been that ill. So I've been too busy stamping out germs to stamp anything fun! Boo-hoo! But everyone is well again, and I promise to get back to sharing ASAP.

For those of you who follow me via FeedBlitz, I wanted to let you know that FeedBlitz will be deactivated in a couple of days. I didn't realize when I signed up that the free account was temporary and eventually they'd start demanding money. I've opted not to pay for their subscription. I'll be looking for another service, but in the meantime you can always come to my blog to check out the lastest - or become a fan on Facebook. I post my blog updates there as well.

Two Weddings and a Thank You

My husband and I had two weddings to attend this month. I also had 31 thank you cards to make for a couple of events. I really like the Day and Night Designer Series Paper in the current mini catalog, and I knew I wanted to use it for the cards. I started with the wedding card. The designs in the paper are so elegant I didn't want to over shadow it with a lot of stuff. So I kept the card clean and simple, with just a small bow to set it off.

You can't tell in the picture, but the white part of the card is what opens. The black piece is just a mat. I could have made a black card base and written with the white gel pen, but this just made it a bit different.

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Basic Black and Whisper White Card Stock, Day and Night Designer Series Paper
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: Basic Black Wide Grosgrain Ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch

I used the same layout for my Thank You cards, but wanted to punch it up with some color in lieu of the black ribbon. I made this flower using the 5 Petal Punch and Trio Flower Punch, along with the Little Leaves Sizzlet Die.

Stamps: Thank You Kindly
Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Pink Passion, Pixie Pink,Green Galore and Summer Sun Card Stock, Day and Night Designer Series Paper
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, 5 Petal Punch, Flower Punch, Little Leaves Sizzlet Die, Silver Brad

The middle layer of the flower was made with the 5 Petal Punch. Punch the flower and attach it to a piece of scrap paper with Dotto. Then punch the flower again but turn it so the petals are cut in two (see picture below). Now you have another type of flower to play with. You can do the same thing with the Trio Flower punch. Try it - you'll like it!

So did you notice my new blog banner? I was playing with My Digital Studio and made it this evening. It was really easy to make. I love how you can tweek colors and sizes so easily. I'll probably end up changing it again before too long. When it's this easy, it makes you want to create new ones as often as possible.

Ok - I just realized that if you're reading this after I've changed the banner, you won't know what I was talking about! I've posted it here so it sticks with the post. :)

Next on my list - a pretty signature!

Bus Driver Appreciation Week

It's Bus Driver Appreciation week at Mulberry Elementary. Being the happy stamper that I am, I volunteered to make 17 Thank You cards/gift card holders and wanted to share the project with you.

The basic fold for this card is simple. You can dress it up with different papers and images and end up with a variety of looks.

Here's the step by step:

Start with a 4"x12" piece of textured Sage Shadow card stock
Score at 2.5" and 8"
Using a circle punch (I used the 1 3/4" punch), punch about a half circle out of the end
that you scored at 2.5" (this becomes the pocket for your gift card)
Fold the 2.5" piece up and secure with brads
Fold the 4" piece down and decorate as desired. I covered mine with Autumn Vine Designer Series Paper (retired)
Attach stamped image or greeting to top flap. I used Defining Alphabet and Define Your Life
If desired, stamp additional greeting on pocket. I used the For You sentiment from All Holidays.
Voila! Quick and easy gift card holder

When did I become a friend of the parents?

This summer has been a milestone of sorts for me. I've been invited to a few events (weddings, Bat Mitzvah, etc) where I wasn't a friend of the celebrant, but a friend of the celebrant's parent. Hmmm. When exactly did I move up to the next generation?

The Bat Mitzvah that I went to was back in Connecticut, for my best friend's daughter. It was a really fun weekend. I decided that I was going to capture the weekend celebrations in a scrapbook for Amber (my friend's daughter). When My Digital Studio came out, and I saw the templates and elements that were included, I was quite excited. The Sunny Day digital elements matched Amber's color scheme perfectly!

I'm still waiting for a few more pictures so I can finish some additional pages. Then I'll print off a hard copy of the album for her. I posted what I have completed so far on my Facebook Fan Page.

I wish Blogger was as easy to use as the Stampin' Up! My Digital Studio. Getting my blog to look and act just right sometimes leaves me scratching my head. For example - I can't figure out why some of my pictures will enlarge when you click on them, but others won't. It may end up being one of the great wonders of my life!

I've decided to post my My Digital Studio samples as single pages because they seem to enlarge and that way you can see the detail better. You're welcome!

I had a chance to play with Stampin' Up!'s new My Digital Studio. My Digital Studio will be available for purchase on October 1. I put together two albums in a day. WOW! I've never really appreciated digital scrapbooking before, but what a great way to put together a quick and beautiful album. I really like how I can have a photo as the cover of the album. Now I'm just waiting for my hard copies to arrive. Yay!

Midnight Creations

Yesterday was such a fun afternoon. I had my hostess club here and I got to show them some new products and techniques. If you remember, I put these projects together in the darkest hours of the night. It was even more fun to share them during the daylight hours.

This first project features the Berry Christmas stamp set again. What's that you say? This doesn't look like a Christmas card? You are so right, little grasshopper! So many Stampin' Up! stamp sets are super versatile like this. This little bird can be used for any kind of card. Love it!

Oh - you noticed something else, too? What's that super cool border? Oh, I'm so glad you asked! That border is made with the Slit Punch. I'll whip up a tutorial and post it soon. So be sure to watch for it!

This matchbox is so easy to make with the Matchbox Bigz XL Die for the Big Shot. We dressed it up with the new Frost White Shimmer Paint. You can use the Shimmer Paint just like ink with your stamps, which I did with the Serene Snowflake stamp set on the Whisper White top of the box. You can also sponge it over paper to make it shimmery like the snowflake punch. The Shimmer Paint also comes in Champagne Mist and Platinum. You can really see the shimmer on the second picture. I'm sure you know someone who would love to receive a little gift in this beautiful, handmade box!

I think this project was a favorite for many of the ladies yesterday. It's so darling - don't you agree?

Midnight Mojo

Without fail, I usually find my stampin' mojo after everyone has gone to bed and the house is nice and quiet. Of course that means it's also late at night - or in today's case it's actually very early in the AM...2 AM to be exact! Somehow this noctournal stamper needs to find her groove while the sun is still up. I'm going to be one tired pup tomorrow - actually, later today!

I am pretty tickled with the projects that resulted from my midnight madness, but I can't share just yet. These fun little treasures are for my hostess club that's coming tomorrow and I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise for the ladies.

Here are a couple of cuties that should tide you over. The pink card with Circle Circus and the ADORABLE reindeer are swaps I received from fellow demos Michelle Chasteen and Lois Schuerman. The gothic card made with From the Crypt is the card I gave them in return. It was inspired by a similar card created by Ariel M. Enjoy!

Naked not allowed

As promised, I'll be posting some pictures from the Stampin' Up! Cincinnati regional seminar over the next few days. I thought I'd start with the make-n-take projects we made. These projects feature the Berry Christmas stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog. This cute little set is a great for the holidays, but it's also perfect for so much more.

You may also notice that we stamped on all the envelopes as well. That's right - no naked envelopes! I usually use the Clear Translucent Envelopes. I'd forgotten how nice is was to stamp on the Whisper White envelopes. It really dresses up the finished project. I think I may start stamping my envelopes again. I mean, we can't have envelopes running around naked, can we? :)

Wow! What a fabulous stamping day today. I attended a Stampin' Up regional training program here in Cincinnati and we had so much fun! As Independent Demonstrators we are so fortunate that Stampin' Up invest so much time and resources into our growth as crafters and business people. It was a great day with friends and we learned several new techniques. I'll post pictures soon.

It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas. At least around my stampin' room it looks like the holidays. I've had so much fun getting ready for my next class. I just know you're going to love it. Here's the scoop.

MEGA Holiday Card Event!!!

November 8, 2009 1-6 PM

Come create 30 holiday cards using half of the Christmas Jingle Simply Scrappin' Kit. PLUS - participants will have a choice of one of two bonus projects! Either two 6x6 scrapbook pages or 12 fun holiday gift tags!

All of this for just $35.

Crafters will follow a simple cutting template and assemble 30 beautiful holiday cards. You'll also have a choice of several holiday greetings to use to customize your cards just the way you like them!

30 cards not enough? Then request double the supplies and you'll have extra materials to take home and create at least 30 additional cards. 60 cards is $65.

Participants should bring a 12" paper trimmer and their favorite adhesive.

I used the new Big Shot Lattice die to make the border. Here's a closer look:

I had some material left over after the club meeting, so I decided to make up some more cards. I had a pile of lattices on the table and I noticed it looked a bit like a medallion. So I layered two lattices on top of each other and came up with this!

Hello all you lovely people! I just got back from a great weekend in my hometown in CT. I went to join the celebration of my BFF's daughter's Bat Mitzvah. It was a wonderful, weekend long celebration. Another great milestone to capture in the scrapbook! It seems like yesterday that we were the crowd of giggling teen aged girls on the dance floor. *sigh* Anyway, it was great to see my home town again and to catch up with my friends. Now I have to wash and sort laundry so we can pack up again and head out to see my family next week. I'm determined to squeeze in some stamping in the next few days. Wish me luck!

A taste of...ribbon!

The new Stampin' Up catalog is just around the corner and they've been teasing us with some great sneak peeks. One of the new products this year is this yummy Polka Dot 1/2" Grosgrain Ribbon in the new In-Colors. They are fabulous! Oh, and did I mention they are reversible? That's right! If you don't want the polka dots to show, just flip it over. Voila! You have all six yummy colors in a solid grosgrain. Gotta love it!

I know you want them all!! I do! Several customers have asked me in the past to do a ribbon share, so here we go.

I volunteered to do the shoe box swap for our last team meeting. I brought this little gem:
(I'll list all the project details in a bit.) The nice thing about the layout, which was inspired by a similar card by fellow demo Dawn Olchefske, is it's quick and easy and you can fit many of our sentiments in that space. I opted to do a thank you card because, quite frankly, I use a lot of them. But I guess that's a good thing. That must mean I have lots of things in my life to be thankful for. Great friends & family, loyal customers and great blog visitors like you!

Coming at you in 3-D!

Do you have your funky blue and red glasses on? OK - you don't really need those stylish glasses but I do have a 3-D project to share with you. This is an 8.5x8.5 wall plaque that I altered. There was a similar project in a Stampin' Up publication and I've been looking for a plaque or frame to use to make my own. I finally found the plaque at Target for $5. Woo-hoo!

I covered the plaque with a piece of the Urban Oasis Designer Series paper - adhering it with Sticky Strip. The butterfly is cut from the same pack of paper with the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and then I put three black brads in the center for his body. A friend of mine said the butterfly looks like he's wearing a tuxedo! I'm a pretty casual gal and would never expect someone to wear formal attire for the debut of this piece, although I would love to see a few pair of those stylish glasses. So let's call this blog post "Black Tie Optional". Ha ha!

The letters are from the On Board Lots of Letters chipboard assortment. I covered the letters with Basic Black craft ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. They are attached to the plaque with sticky strip as well.

Now the big cliff hanger...do I keep it or give it as a gift? You'll have to wait for the sequel to find out. :)

Closing Another Chapter

Watching my children hit milestones in life is a bittersweet experience. My youngest graduated from preschool the other day. I LOVE this preschool. (St. Thomas Nursery School in Terrace Park, OH if anyone is preschool shopping) It's such a warm and welcoming place and I'm so glad my children had the opportunity to start their education there. The staff is just awesome!

Vaughn is so excited to start kindergarten, but it's hard for me to leave STNS behind. I'll miss it terribly - probably more than my kids ever will.

This is the thank you card I made for his teacher. I got to do a little heat embossing and a touch of watercoloring. Fun stuff! Can you see the little bit of shimmer on the images. I used the shimmer white paper this time. It's really nice to watercolor on. You should try it sometime.

Oh, and don't you love my Cameo Coral ribbon? Hehe! Actually that's the Whisper White Organza Ribbon colored with a Cameo Coral marker. It's great that you can make it any color you want to so easily.

I saw this little beauty when I was blog and gallery surfing the other day and just had to make my own. (My apologies to the original stamper - I cannot remember where I saw the inspiration piece.) The only change I made was the color scheme. This combination always reminds me of rainbow sherbet. Yummy! I dropped these in the Hostess Club orders I delivered the other day. It's a Love/Hate Thing

It's no secret that I love making cards. I love giving friends and family something special that I made just for them. I love the creative process. I love knowing that getting a handmade card is sure to bring a smile to their face.

This card is no different. I love this card and I love that I'm able to send it to a dear friend on behalf of a group friends. However, I hate that I had to make this card. You see - our dear friend lost her niece, Rowan, recently to a long battle with leukemia. Rowan was just a young girl who graced this earth for a very short time. I hate that. I hate that cards like this have to be sent to adults who are burying children. I hate that my friend is hurting so much right now. I hate that there isn't more I can do to ease her pain. But I love that I can send her something to show that we are all thinking of her in this difficult time.

I hope you love this card as much as I do, but I hope you never have the occasion to need to copy it.

Playing with matches matchboxes

May is National Scrapbooking Month

I remember when I started scrapbooking. It wasn't really a conscious decision - it kind of snuck up on me. I wanted to make a cute picture book for my son and niece for Christmas. I bought some patterned paper, selected favorite family pictures, and wrote little snippets about each person. Gee - sounds just like a scrapbook, right? I didn't think so then. At the time I thought scrapbooks had to be elaborate works of art, with the quality of the work a direct correlation to how much it weighed! It wasn't until my sister gave me a certificate for a scrapbooking class that I realized that scrapbooks come in all shapes and sizes. That was February 2003 - the adventure began and I haven't looked back since. My little scrapbooking hobby grew to include cards and then stamping - I love it all. Now I have the absolute pleasure of sharing my hobby with all of you. Who could ask for a better job?

Happy Wednesday everyone! My family is finally getting back into our normal routine after having a week off for Spring Break. It's amazing how having so much time off can be so exhausting! Both of my little boys were off Monday so they got to come with me to my event at Season's retirement community. They had fun being my helpers and the ladies there enjoyed having the boys around. They had met Vaughn before in previous classes, but this was the first time Jagger was there. They were almost more interested in talking to the boys than stamping!

Buckets of fun!

So - were you ready to send out an Amber Alert? I'm sorry for not posting for so long. It's amazing how the common cold running through the house can keep a person from blogging. But it seems to be behind us for now, and I can get back to the fun parts of life, like crafting and sharing. :)

I was together with some of my SU team the other day working on different projects and I made this bucket. Isn't it cute! I love it! I found the pail at WalMart and then used a bunch of my SU goodies to alter it. I got to play with my new Beautiful Butterflies Big Shot die and I can tell it's going to quickly become a favorite. I also used the Simple Flower Embosslit die - so fun and easy!

Lions and Dinos and Monkeys! Oh my!

Did you all have a fabulous Valentine's Day? I hope so. My parents were in town for the long weekend, so that made it an extra special day - and a very busy weekend! Here are the cards I made for my husband and kids. These are all for guys - so there's nothing frilly about these cards! But it just goes to show you how you can take just about any stamp set and make it work for any occasion. A touch of red, a heart here and there, and suddenly dinosaurs and lions are gushing with love. :)

This Sock monkey card was for my 14 year old stepson. Anyone with a teenage son can appreciate how hard it is to make a card with the right balance between not too cute, not too grown-up, not too silly, not too frilly. I think he liked it - at least he wasn't frowning when he grunted a thanks at me.

Who knew dinosaurs could be so warm and fuzzy? My 6 year old son is a dinosaur freak, so you'll probably see lots of dinosaur cards on my blog. He thought it was pretty cool!

My youngest loves Jungle Animals. He got a big kick from this card. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but the lion's head is popped up. I stamped the lion 3 times - twice in More Mustard and once in Really Rust. I layered the More Mustard face onto the Really Rust head and then popped it up with a Dimentional on the second More Mustard body. I also used the tree tops from Prehistoric Pals for the ground cover. I tuned it upside down so the leaves were pointing up, and stamped it in Creamy Caramel. Man oh man oh man...

Three of the men in my family have birthdays this month. I really struggle making cards for guys. I'm naturally drawn more towards floral or cutsie designs. So last night I sat down to make some masculine birthday cards. I pulled out masculine colors - Sahara Sand, Basic Black and Whisper White. I looked through the galleries for masculine inspiration. Here's what I came up with:

LOL!! Like I said - I'm drawn to flowers! I really love the way this card turned out. I'm going to use it as a project for an upcoming Stamp-A-Stack, so consider this your sneak peek. :)

Snow and stamping don't mix sometimes

If I didn't know better I'd think the snow doesn't want me to stamp. I got together with several friends on Sunday for a crafty day. On my way to my friend's house we were struck by an unexpected snow storm! I'm a die hard stamper though, so I pushed on and made it. It was a blast! A special shout out to Lisa C for hosting and welcoming us into her beautiful home. Thanks Lisa!

I was supposed to get together with my family of demonstrators tonight for some stamping and socializing but we got hit by snow again. 10 inches of snow and ice this time. This little stamper stayed home this time.

So I guess the lesson is if your kids want to go sledding, just invite me over to stamp. :)

A new beginning

What a monumental day in history this is . As we welcome in President Obama and say goodbye to President Bush, I sit here reflecting on the past 8 years and can only wonder what the next four years have in store. President Obama promised change during his campaign and I have no doubt that things will change. Maybe not as much change as some had hoped, maybe more than some would like, but you can't have a changing of the guard, if you will, and not have some kind of greater change as the result. It is with great anticipation, and maybe a little trepidation, that I look forward to whatever change may come. I wish him and his family well as they begin their new life in DC. May he serve our country well.

Speaking of reflecting - all of this talk about looking back, reflecting, etc., reminded me of a scrapbook page I did a long time ago. I'd like to share that page with you now. I'm sorry the picture isn't great - digital cameras have come a long way in the last 4 years! Now brace yourself...there isn't a lick of Stampin' Up stuff on this page. *GASP!* The papers and sticker letters are Basic Grey. I love this layout because it captures an ordinary moment. My two youngest boys would play in front of that mirror everyday! The obsession with mirrors has ceased for the time being - video games and sports rank at the top now - but I'm sure I'll find them spending hours in front of a mirror again once they discover girls. Quick - someone tell me how to stop time!

Because he always brings me fun stuff! Today he brought me the new Stampin' Up! 2009 Spring/Summer Catalog & Idea Book and let me tell you - it's purty! Demos have been asked not to post pictures of the new catalog until it's released next week (January 19 to be exact) but I promise you it will be worth the short wait. So tomorrow, when it's a whopping 12 degrees outside, you'll find me curled up with a cup of tea and my new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog. My wish list is gonna be a whopper!

I'm a copycat and that's OK!

When I first starting making cards and scrapbook pages I always stressed over coming up with something completely original. The obsession took all the joy out of the hobby for me. I'm not a naturally artsy person, and some days I don't even feel very creative, but I get a lot of satisfaction making cards and scrapbook pages - especially if I'm giving them as gifts. Over the years I've learned that in this hobby it's perfectly OK to use other people's work as your source of inspiration or quite simply - copy it. There's even a special term for it - CASE. No, no - not nut case or basket case like my husband may think sometimes *chuckle* - CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything.

I spend a lot of my free time online looking at other people's creations. If I find something that I like, I save it as a source of inspiration for a future project. Most of the time I use just a part of the project - the color combination, the layout, the technique, etc. - but occasionally I do CASE the project. If you see something here that inspires you, please feel free to CASE it. I'd be thrilled knowing that I was able to spark your creativity. All that I ask is you give me credit for the inspiration if you post it anywhere.

One of the galleries I check out regularly is Stampin' Kub. He is an uber-talented stamper!! I really like his clean style. A couple of years ago I saw this card in his gallery and just loved the simplicity of it. This year I decided to CASE his card for my Christmas card. Here's my version:

It's always an exciting time when there's a new Stampin' Up catalog coming out. the new catalog is available on January 19 - but demonstrators had the opportunity to buy a few new stamp sets early. Yay!!! I love getting to play with the new images. When I saw these cute little guys, I just knew they had to come live with me. The set also includes a bee hive, a flower, a honey pot and another sentiment "have a honey of a day." It's an awesome set to watercolor with, or just fill in quickly with your Stampin' Write Markers, like I did here.

I also used yummy, new Designer Series Paper called Candy Lane that came with the Love You Much special going on. Here's a close up so you can see some of the sparkle on the wings.
